Staff Pick – HCSB Study Bible

TerrFayeCasperiaEach week the blog will feature a favorite book of a staff member that’s available on WORDsearch.

I’m a big proponent of daily Bible reading because everything in life makes more sense when God’s Word is fresh in my mind every day. It strengthens my spirit, gives me energy and makes me a better husband, father and minister to others. This year, I chose to read through the HCSB Study Bible and it has been an absolute joy!

For years, I had the mistaken opinion that the Holman Christian Standard Bible was a “Baptist Bible” because it is published by Broadman & Holman. Reading this study Bible has certainly changed my mind. My experience has been that this is a very accurate translation that is easy to read and understand. The HCSB Study Bible includes a ton of helpful material that will bless anyone, regardless of their denominational preference.

One reason I’ve enjoyed this study Bible so much is because of the study notes. These notes are better described as a very good, built-in commentary on every verse. So often when I’m reading a Bible passage I find myself asking, “I wonder what that means?” Invariably, when I look at the study notes, the commentator answers my question by explaining exactly what that means. I love this!

The editors of the HCSB Study Bible did a marvelous job putting this work together. Everything seems to be in place where it’s most useful: cross-references, word studies, maps, charts, photographs, outlines, overviews and excellent articles on important Bible themes. Having this work in WORDsearch makes it even better because it interfaces with so many other tools.

This is the study Bible I’ve been recommending to my friends.
