Big or small, every youth ministry is dependent on parents and volunteers for success. An important skill to develop in volunteers is the ability to share and discuss the Word of God. If you are looking for a resource to help you train volunteers to study the Bible, I recommend The Youth Worker’s Guide to Creative Bible Study.
What I like most about this book is that it lends itself to be used as a guide for a weekend leadership retreat. The book is separated into two parts; part one will help you instruct your volunteers with Bible study. Chapter one focuses on learning about how to teach the Bible through the example of ultimate Bible teacher, Jesus. Chapter two then focuses on the students and gives practical advice to help your small groups be safe, inclusive, and more importantly Jesus-focused.
Part two of the book contains ideas that help students retain the topics of study. There are chapters covering learning games, creative questioning, talk starters, learning projects, and Bible memory joggers. With so many ideas it will help every youth pastor and leadership team come up with an engaging Bible study experience.
