Quick Tips – Android Book Functionality

In this blog, we’ll learn more about the WORDsearch Android app functionality. Specifically, we’ll look at how to view your table of contents, notes, bookmarks and highlights, how to use the table of content slider, how to change your text options, how to create notes, bookmarks and highlights, and how to search within text.

Reading a Book
Here are some basics:

  • To turn the page, slide from right to left
  • Go back to your Library by tapping on the WORDsearch icon in the top left corner of the Reading Pane
  •  Touch a Bible reference in any book and instantly read the verse or jump into the full Bible text

View Your Table of Contents, Bookmarks, Highlights, and Notes
While in the Reading Pane, you’ll find a number of helpful features. To view these options, tap the Content Navigation button on the top right of the Reading Pane. This will show you the Table of Contents of the book you’re currently reading and also any bookmarks, highlights or notes that you may have created in your book.

Additionally, the Content Navigation button is where you can jump to a different verse by tapping the Verse Selector button, then tapping on the Bible book, chapter and verse you wish to view.

Table of Contents Slider
To quickly move to a different part of the book you are in, hold down the circle on the slider located at the bottom of the Reading Pane. Slide the circle and you will see the various chapters of the books above the bar. Stop where you would like to read. This bar also keeps track of your progress in the book by showing you how far along you are.

Text Options
To change the size and style of the font, paragraph settings or brightness, tap on the Text Settings icon in the bottom left corner of the Reading Pane, right next to the Table of Contents Slider. This will bring up the available options for your text. When you are finished making your changes, tap anywhere on the screen and the Text Options box will close with your changes saved.

Create a Note, Highlight or Bookmark
To create a note, highlight, or bookmark, long press on the beginning section of the text you would like to select, then drag your text selector tool to highlight the entire section of text you desire. Tap on the Note, Highlight or Bookmark icon from the bar that will pop up in the top right-hand corner of the screen.  You can then type your note, choose your highlight color, or create a bookmark for that spot and tap save. From then on, you will see a little note icon, highlight icon or bookmark icon in that location.

Search Within Text
A great feature in the new Android app is the ability to search within text. Simply tap on the Search icon, tap on Search Within Text, then type in a term and tap Search on your onscreen keyboard. Choose a category, and you’ll see the specific books in that category that mention your search term.

Tap on the book you would like to see results from.

You will now see specifically where the book mentions your term. Tap on the reference and the app will take you to that place in your Reading Pane.

You now know how to view your table of contents, notes, bookmarks, and highlights, how to use the table of content slider, how to change your text options, how to create notes, bookmarks, and highlights, and how to search within text.
