Happy Mother’s Day from WORDsearch! In honor of some of the moms in our lives, some of our staff shared what they love about their mothers.

When parents have multiple children, they are often determined for their kids to know that they don’t choose favorites.  Well, as for my mom, she has always been persistent to claim me as her “favorite son.”  While this recognition is appreciated, it makes sense once realized that I only have an older sister.

My name is Jim Johnsen. I work with the WORDsearch/QuickVerse sales and customer service team. I have been working in the Bible software industry for 12 years. In my hometown of Omaha, I attend Glad Tidings Church (Assemblies of God). At the church, I have been involved in multiple different areas, such as Intercessory prayer, alter worker, usher, music and some evangelistic outreach in our city. I have been married for 29 years, and I have one daughter and two grandchildren. Some of my favorite things to do in life are to study God’s Word, spend time with my grandkids and play the drums/guitar.

After fasting for 40 days and nights, Jesus was tempted by Satan to produce bread to settle His own hunger. How like the Adversary to come at a time of extreme weakness and attack with the one thing that is desired the most. It is at the pinnacle of spiritual victory that we are most likely to succumb to the attacks of our enemy. When our prayer life is at its strongest, Satan attacks. When we spend time every day reading and meditating on God’s Word, the Accuser begins to throw guilt in the way of our spiritual growth.

GA trip 2011 156Have you heard about the book 7: An Experimental Mutiny Against Excess by Jen Hatmaker?

The premise of the book is that Hatmaker fasted from certain parts of her life she found in excess each month for seven months.

For example, for the first month, she only ate seven different foods. Yes, you read that right. Instead of focusing on all the food options surrounding her, she gave up all food except the seven she choose. Another month, she gave away seven things a day. (And she still had plenty of stuff– that is how much stuff she had in her house!)
